Chewy Milk Chocolate Chip Cookies!

by zesty on October 14, 2008 · 83 comments

Thanksgiving Monday here in Canada and we had our turkey dinners both on Saturday and Sunday – which left today for baking and cooking. This is my kind of holiday!

The morning started off with some homemade chocolate chip cookies. Can you really beat the plain chocolate chip cookie? I am a huge cookie fan in general… but there are times where you just want a plain old fashion chewy chocolate chip cookie.

Follow along below and you can whip these yummy morsels up in no time.  This recipe is taken from the back of the Hershey’s chocolate chips so I really am not taking any credit for it besides… baking them :)

Ingredients

  • 2/3 Cup Melted Butter
  • 2 Cups Lightly Packed Brown Sugar
  • 2 Eggs
  • 2 Tbsp Hot Water
  • 2 2/3 Cups All Purpose Flour
  • 1 Tsp Baking Powder
  • 1 Tsp Baking Soda
  • 1/4 Tsp Salt
  • 1 Package (270g) Chocolate Chips

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, add melted butter, brown sugar, eggs and hot water and mix well.
  3. Stir in the remaining dry ingredients.
  4. Add the chocolate chips and mix thoroughly.
  5. Drop from spoon onto ungreased cookie sheet
  6. Bake at 375 for 8 to 10 minutes until golden brown on the bottom.

As always, I like to ask all my readers a question so I can learn more about the world of food. So tell me, what is your favorite cookie?
Hope you have a great Monday…

Zesty

mmm! The only thing I’ve been doing (other than messing with the type of chocolate, and nuts or oats etc.) is adding cornstarch. It practically guarantees, a soft cookie centre. Fabulous pictures!!

I’m so saving this post and picking up some chocolate chips on my next trip to the store! Plain old chocolate chip cookies… my favorite! I’m jealous that you’re already having turkey dinners, I love that part of the holidays. :)

I like the little limie too!! Although I just changed it for now to something a little more for fall.

Those look so good I can practically taste them! My only issue with baking cookies is that I tend to eat most of the batter before I bake it! :)

PinkPeppercorn – How much cornstarch would you add – very interesting.

Cheryl- thanks I was debating about adding walnuts but this time i left them out

Jo – hmm not sure I have ever had those – are they a US brand?

Thanks Amy, Erica

Tabitha/Joanna – you will have to let me know how your cookies go and your turkey day!

Alr1187 – I have yet to try snickerdoodles!! I better get on that

Krista – HAHA – yeah i tend to do that as well… the yield gets alot smaller all of a sudden:)

I have never seen chocolate chip cookies made with only brown sugar, mostly its 2/3 granulated 1/3 brown
Also whats the purpose of the hot water I have never used water in any of my cookies?

my favorit cookies are chocolate chips because you can do so many things with them, like making them with M&M’s or Recces Pieces, or chunks of chocolate instead of chips. When they are still warm take 2 and put a scoop of ice cream between them to make an awesome ice cream sandwich. Or bake the dough with out chocolate then let it cool and dip half of it in chocolate to make what i call “dippers” they are great for dunking in your hote coffee or tea or even cold milk

or you can even do the no chocolate dough press ice cream between to cooked cookies then dip it in chocolate and freeze it for a chocolate diped cookie sandwich

the cooked dought itself crumbled over pie’s or used as no bake pie crust is good too

My nephews love it when I make Earthquake pie, which is smashed chocolate chip cookie with chocolate pie filling on top then more smashed cookies, and some times screaded coconut thats colored green for summor or leave it white for winter ones

What’s your feeling on resting & chilling the dough before portioning it out on the cookie sheet?

Reply

My favorite favorite cookie would have to be chocolate chocolate chip cookies.

But if I’m being healthy I like oatmeal-applesauce cookies with lots of cinnamon.

Classic homemade chocolate chip cookies rule above all others. I used to make them alll the time. And they looked almost exactly like yours do. I don’t think the recipe is the exact same but probably pretty close.
I haven’t made them in much too long now. Imma cravin’ some good ol cookies.

Thanks very much everyone. I am so glad you like the cookies!

Ember – The water added is to balance out the sugar amount and to avoid the batter getting lumpy and sugary.

Reeni – I had a great holiday… I ate too much but that is part of the fun factor

Kristie – I do agree. :)

Jenn – thank you and your quite welcome.

Natasha – WOW Thanks so much…. I will defintiely pass it on

For the rest of the world, who don’t necessarily use cups to measure, here’s the recipe in metric:

150g melted butter
400g brown sugar
2 eggs
2 Tbsp hot water
286g all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
270g choc chips

Preheat oven at 190° C.
then follow the recipe above…

You wouldn’t believe how many people out there silently despise online recipes that only measure in cups.

Cookies are supposed to be sweet, you cant even taste any sugar in them, it felt like i was eating flour!

I remember in growing up years, chocolate chip cookies being soft on the inside and just a thin crust on the outside. I have been searching every recipe I can find looking for that texture. I have tried 100′s of recipes…Could this be the one? Anybody?

I made these today and they did not turn out as hoped. The batter was much too thin and the cookies spread out greatly in the over. The taste was dynamite though and I just used the rest of the batter to make cookie bars instead.
