Thanksgiving Monday here in Canada and we had our turkey dinners both on Saturday and Sunday – which left today for baking and cooking. This is my kind of holiday!
The morning started off with some homemade chocolate chip cookies. Can you really beat the plain chocolate chip cookie? I am a huge cookie fan in general… but there are times where you just want a plain old fashion chewy chocolate chip cookie.
Follow along below and you can whip these yummy morsels up in no time. This recipe is taken from the back of the Hershey’s chocolate chips so I really am not taking any credit for it besides… baking them
Ingredients
- 2/3 Cup Melted Butter
- 2 Cups Lightly Packed Brown Sugar
- 2 Eggs
- 2 Tbsp Hot Water
- 2 2/3 Cups All Purpose Flour
- 1 Tsp Baking Powder
- 1 Tsp Baking Soda
- 1/4 Tsp Salt
- 1 Package (270g) Chocolate Chips
Method
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- In a large mixing bowl, add melted butter, brown sugar, eggs and hot water and mix well.
- Stir in the remaining dry ingredients.
- Add the chocolate chips and mix thoroughly.
- Drop from spoon onto ungreased cookie sheet
- Bake at 375 for 8 to 10 minutes until golden brown on the bottom.
As always, I like to ask all my readers a question so I can learn more about the world of food. So tell me, what is your favorite cookie?
Hope you have a great Monday…
Zesty

I’ll take 2 right now with a glass of milk…wait…it’s 5:45 am. Is that too early for chocolate chip cookies?!
of course not!! what are you waiting for? go bake some delicious mouth watering cookies now!
Never too early for chocolate chip cookies Megan!
mmm! The only thing I’ve been doing (other than messing with the type of chocolate, and nuts or oats etc.) is adding cornstarch. It practically guarantees, a soft cookie centre. Fabulous pictures!!
These look lovely Zesty
I love Toll House Chocolate chip cookies best… remind me of my youth!
Those look really yummy, and that is my favorite cookie although I add walnuts. I am making them today!
Hey! Thanks for visiting my blog! You’re right…maple glazed carrots (well..maple glazed ANYTHING) = delicious! Your blog is adorable, glad I found it
Beautiful blog! I love the step by step pictures (although they’re making me hungry
). I can’t wait to see more!
Mmmmm… cookies. I love ALL cookies!
I’m so saving this post and picking up some chocolate chips on my next trip to the store! Plain old chocolate chip cookies… my favorite! I’m jealous that you’re already having turkey dinners, I love that part of the holidays.
I like the little limie too!! Although I just changed it for now to something a little more for fall.
These look so good!! I’m Cdn, but live here in the US, so we don’t celebrate our Thanksgiving till November. I’ll try these cookies with my kids this weekend, they look delicious!
I like snickerdoodles!!! I have never been able to make chocolate chip cookies! They always come out bad. Maybe I will try these and see if I get better results!
Those look so good I can practically taste them! My only issue with baking cookies is that I tend to eat most of the batter before I bake it!
PinkPeppercorn – How much cornstarch would you add – very interesting.
Cheryl- thanks I was debating about adding walnuts but this time i left them out
Jo – hmm not sure I have ever had those – are they a US brand?
Thanks Amy, Erica
Tabitha/Joanna – you will have to let me know how your cookies go and your turkey day!
Alr1187 – I have yet to try snickerdoodles!! I better get on that
Krista – HAHA – yeah i tend to do that as well… the yield gets alot smaller all of a sudden:)
The cookies look perfect! I’m loving the cookie tower. It’s fantastic
Mmmm… I LOVE chocolate chip cookies and your recipe looks great. I’ll have to try these. They’re making me hungry!
Wow! I’m so glad I returned the blog visit. You have a great site here, Corey! And I’m glad that the post I landed on today had chocolate chip cookies because those are my favorites. Well, actually I also like to add walnuts and oatmeal to them and then they are the perfect cookie.
Your photographs are wonderful, are you an aspiring photographer as well as a great cook? Thanks for stopping in to my blog. I will be back to visit yours as well!
Those cookies look so good I wish I could reach right into the screen and grab one!
Nicole – Thanks so much!
Teeni – Thanks! If you only knew how long it took me to getthe photos – I am still working on it and usually I have to call in my wife to take the best picture!
Michwendt – haha as you were saying that I was just eating one – i think you should just make them and let me know how you got along!
I have never seen chocolate chip cookies made with only brown sugar, mostly its 2/3 granulated 1/3 brown
Also whats the purpose of the hot water I have never used water in any of my cookies?
my favorit cookies are chocolate chips because you can do so many things with them, like making them with M&M’s or Recces Pieces, or chunks of chocolate instead of chips. When they are still warm take 2 and put a scoop of ice cream between them to make an awesome ice cream sandwich. Or bake the dough with out chocolate then let it cool and dip half of it in chocolate to make what i call “dippers” they are great for dunking in your hote coffee or tea or even cold milk
or you can even do the no chocolate dough press ice cream between to cooked cookies then dip it in chocolate and freeze it for a chocolate diped cookie sandwich
the cooked dought itself crumbled over pie’s or used as no bake pie crust is good too
My nephews love it when I make Earthquake pie, which is smashed chocolate chip cookie with chocolate pie filling on top then more smashed cookies, and some times screaded coconut thats colored green for summor or leave it white for winter ones
These look delicious. I would eat the whole batch.
Can’t wait for the weekend to try out these yummy cookies! Thank you!
Just letting you know, I totally drooled at the sight of those cookies. They look awesome! Chewy cookies always go well with a glass of milk. Yummmmm
i could so use one of those right now! my favorite cookie is definitely chocolate chip! i don’t eat too many cookies, but when i do, it’s ALWAYS chocolate chip. I have a great vegan recipe that is usually my stand-by.
I love using brown sugar when making chocolate chip cookies. They look delicious. I love holiday baking!
Wow those cookies are making me drool! Those look incredible. THey might be my favorite cookies, even though I haven’t had them.
Happy Thanksgiving!
What’s your feeling on resting & chilling the dough before portioning it out on the cookie sheet?
My favorite favorite cookie would have to be chocolate chocolate chip cookies.
But if I’m being healthy I like oatmeal-applesauce cookies with lots of cinnamon.
I love the cookie stack!! You can’t beat a good chocolate chip cookie. Hope you had a great holiday!
Droooooool.
Classic homemade chocolate chip cookies rule above all others. I used to make them alll the time. And they looked almost exactly like yours do. I don’t think the recipe is the exact same but probably pretty close.
I haven’t made them in much too long now. Imma cravin’ some good ol cookies.
i loveee chewy cookies and these cookies are to die for! i’m gonna try to make these this weekend!
HOLY Brown Sugar, Batman! Those look devine! I wish I had a cookie right now.
Chocolate Chip Cookies are by far my most favorite cookie. Of course, I can make a mean Snickerdoodle too.

Cheers!
Natasha
favorite cookie, eh? it’s a tough one, but anything that has peanut butter and chocolate in it can’t be wrong.
These make me wish I was not on a diet! There is nothing like a good chocolate chip company.
Thanks very much everyone. I am so glad you like the cookies!
Ember – The water added is to balance out the sugar amount and to avoid the batter getting lumpy and sugary.
Reeni – I had a great holiday… I ate too much but that is part of the fun factor
Kristie – I do agree.
Jenn – thank you and your quite welcome.
Natasha – WOW Thanks so much…. I will defintiely pass it on
My favorite cookies are chocolate chip – and yours look incredibly good.
Do I ever love chewy chocolate chip cookies, they are definitely my favorite.
Megan: “it’s 5:45 am. Is that too early for chocolate chip cookies?!” No. No it’s not. If you can have doughnuts for breakfast, you can have cookies.
looks great. i’ve been craving a basic chocolate chip cookie for about a week now…
Chocolate chip cookies are my all time favorite food. Funny thing, I’ve been baking them since I was a kid and whenever I’m feeling down, I bake a batch of chocolate chip cookies and feel better.
Your cookies look great. Classic!
For the rest of the world, who don’t necessarily use cups to measure, here’s the recipe in metric:
150g melted butter
400g brown sugar
2 eggs
2 Tbsp hot water
286g all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
270g choc chips
Preheat oven at 190° C.
then follow the recipe above…
You wouldn’t believe how many people out there silently despise online recipes that only measure in cups.
Chewy is good and chocolate is better!
Ahhhh I’m in love with any kind of chocolate chip cookies, and these look marvellous! Unfortunatelly I’m not good at baking them. I’ll try your recipe soon
I LOVE chocolate chip cookies. I recently made a batch of double chocolate chip cookies and I have to say, those are my favourite kind of cookies!
They would make a great midnight snack right about now!
Mmmmmm. I love chocolate chip cookies and these look delicious!!!
Just made these cookies, LOVED them!! So perfect!
My husband is a chewy chocolate chip cookie freak. I’ve made chocolate chip cookies in the past but they were never chewy enough. These were perfect and are now his favorite!
Well I’ve tried about 100 different CC cookie recipes, and this one looks good, so I think I’ll try it too. Nice blog.
Looks great! Thanks!
These are the best chocolate chip cookies EVER! I love that they’re Milk chocolate too. Thank you!
O M G! These cookies are wonderful thnx! i did a lil sub. though i added white chocolate chips with.
well so far i think these are great i made a change though i added mint and dark chocolate chips
Hi Zesty
What kind of chocolate chips did you use. The title implies milk chocolate chips.
@Jackie – Yeah they were just Hershey’s milk chocolate chips
I just made these about 20 minutes ago and they’re already gone..AND there’s just three of us. I think that says it all. Awesome, awesome, awesome! I’m thinkin’ about adding some peanut butter next time..just so I can inject another inch on the thighs
My 3 year old daughter and I just finished whipping these puppies up and lets say they are a glass of tall milk’s best friend!!!! thank you for the recipe…..what a way to spend a rainy Sunday afternoon

Kinda the same as http://www.hersheycanada.com/en/recipes/recipes/detail.asp?id=6624&page=1&per=50&category_ID=6#content_area
Yes Jason – this is the exact recipe I used as I mentioned in the post.
Wow, I just made some and like I said wow !!! I was wondering how many cups is 270 grams then I just looked on the back of the big bag of Hershey’s milk chips and found the recipe 270 grams = 1 1/2 cups of chips.
I would like to know what the nutritional content of this recipe is????
TOO DRY, i just made these and theyr not that good, didnt even hit the spot abit, i think it needs some white sugar in it, their not that sweet and like i said dryyy!!
Cookies are supposed to be sweet, you cant even taste any sugar in them, it felt like i was eating flour!
I remember in growing up years, chocolate chip cookies being soft on the inside and just a thin crust on the outside. I have been searching every recipe I can find looking for that texture. I have tried 100′s of recipes…Could this be the one? Anybody?
signed,
Looking for childhood memories
after trying diff recipes i love this one, a changed the hot water to milk n they are sooooo goooood!!!!!!!!
These cookies are the best recipe I have ever tried. They don’t get oily, and they aren’t hockey pucks when they cool. Also great with chocolate chunks, white chocolate chips and walnuts.
BEST COOKIES EVER!!!!
Thanks Shannon! Glad you loved them
I made these today and they did not turn out as hoped. The batter was much too thin and the cookies spread out greatly in the over. The taste was dynamite though and I just used the rest of the batter to make cookie bars instead.
Mmmmm my love…chocolate chip cookies!!
Wow, these were great and easy to make! My choc chip cookies usually come out flat but these were perfect, thanks!
I was searching for a really good chocolate chip cookie recipe last night and came across this one. I decided to try them out today and I just have one word..AMAZING!!!!! I brought them to work to share with co-workers and customers and they are all gone. I even had one client call me back after leaving to tell me just how great they were. This is now my new favorite cookie recipe. Thank you so much!!!
Theresa, That is so nice of you to say! So glad you enjoyed them!
Replace the Milk chocolate chips with Hershey’s Special Dark Chocolate Chips. For dark Chocolate fans its quite amazing.
Yum! I would love those too
I just finished baking a batch of the Hershey’s milk chocolate cookies. They were really tasty. Your photos of the cookies make my mouth water. Good job. Thanks.
