Good morning, good afternoon or good evening… depending on when you are reading this and what part of the world you are located. This week has flown by very quickly which is a good thing since I enjoy the weekends so much. Even though it’s a weeknight, I am going to a comedy show starring Jeremy Hotz. I am pretty excited as it will be a nice break from the regular routine.
So I guess you’re wondering about the title, Not your average ham and cheese. I had some Pita bread that I picked up from the bakery and I always seem to have some roasted turkey breast or deli ham in the fridge for a quick sandwich. As I love to use leftovers, I thought I would share a pita sandwich that I put together.
It is nothing fancy but great as a lunch or even a quick meal on the run. Another great way to kick this up and add a different texture is to grill it with an indoor grill or even on the barbecue. Basically grill it until the pita browns and the cheese melts.
Ingredients
- Pita Bread
- Ham Slices
- Lettuce
- Parsley (only if you have any)
- Tomatoes
- Cucumbers
- Parmesan Cheese ( sliced )
- 1 Tsp. Chili Powder
- Mayonnaise
- Mustard
Method
- Cut the Pita bread in two and create a pocket like opening.
- Mix chili powder, mayonnaise, and mustard together to make a spread.
- Smear inside pita bread with some of the spread.
- Place all other ingredients in the pita (be gentle).
- ENJOY!
Zesty Tip: When using pita bread, if you find it is getting stale or simply not as fresh – a quick technique to bring it back to life is to slightly dampen the bread with your wet fingers and then place it in the oven for a few minutes.
Question of the Day:
What is your favorite Deli Meat?
I hope you have a great Thursday and I look forward to hearing all your answers regarding today’s question.
Take care

Bakery pita bread? I bet it is sooooo yummy! Hope the show was fun. Favorite deli meat…hmm not much for the meat, my husband really likes the buffalo chicken (boars head). I like provolone cheese!
Hey, Zesty! My fave deli meat would have to honey ham. So good with Swiss!!
Hi Cory,
Fresh and easy to make adorable! I’m big fan of pita in my case with finely chopped pastrami
Looks like a yummy sandwich. I will try the spread. My favorite deli meat is good corned beef. I have a recipe for homemade corned beef. Great because you can make it with a leaner cut of beef, venison, or even goose breast.
As you can see in my blog I love pittas, sandwiches etc and love finding new fillings. This is another yummy find.
My favourite meat is chicken, done any and every way possible.
Yum!
Favorite deli meat….I love really good ham. Honey, black forest, anything – as long as it’s good quality and not a meat blob
Love the addition of chili powder!
Enjoy the show tonight!
Nothing like a good ham sandwich!
Mmmm…ham & cheese sammich. Add some dill pickle & it would be perfect!
My fave deli meats would have to be smoked chicken breats and black forest ham.
I love the Boar’s Head Sausalito turkey.
That sounds yummy!! I am turkey gal myself. YUM-O!
Does tofurkey count? That’s my favorite! Bobby’s favorite is peppered turkey.
Parma ham for me! Love the addition of chili powder!
Never thought to add chili powder – I don’t like mayo, so I sub FF sourcream – now I’ll have a spicy sourcream schmere!
Corned beef, hands down, the best deli meat. I am lucky that I live by a market that has the BEST and CHEAPEST deli – most meats are around $3.00 a pound!
ooh chili powder – how creative!
I used to love italian deli grinders with salami and all the italian deli meats. But since I started eating healthier, I love an occasional toasted ham and cheese sandwich (gotta have hot peppers on it)! I’ve sworn off most deli meats, however, unless I can find them with no nitrates, no hormones, and minimally processed. Fortunately, I can find some every so often, which keeps me happy.
Favorite deli meat??? Boars Head rare roast beef..I usuallu eat it all by the time I get home from the grocery store.
I love doing stand up. Doing is nerveracking, but interesting.
