Simple Salad with Maple Vinaigrette

Simple Salad with Maple Vinaigrette

Can you believe it is Thursday already?  It’s the time of year where the weather is cooling off and winter is drawing near.  I thought I would make one more crack at the outdoor grill and whip up a simple salad packed with flavor. Recently, I have been on a maple kick so I thought I [...]

Easy Carrot Ginger Soup

Easy Carrot Ginger Soup

Middle of the week is upon us – I hope everyone is doing well thus far.  The weather is starting to cool down so I thought I would warm everyone up with a super simple smooth soup.  Wow, what an alliteration!  The combination of carrot and ginger coupled with the nutty flavor of the cashews [...]

Easy Whole Wheat Bread Recipe with Molasses

Easy Whole Wheat Bread Recipe with Molasses

Happy Thursday everybody!  Today’s post (like the rest of the week) is dedicated to super easy to prepare food that tastes great.  I was talking to my great friend yesterday and I asked him what I should make and post about for Thursday.  He said “Zesty, why don’t you make a killer loaf of homemade [...]

A Front End Loaded Waffle

Welcome to the day after Canada Day!! We survived and had a great time.  We went down to Charlottetown Summerfest at the waterfront, we had a family barbecue ( which I forgot to take my camera ) but the food was amazing and we stayed up for the fireworks.

I will give you a little recap on the fireworks and include a short video compliments of Jeff Docherty at Jeffdoc.com after I share with you my off the cuff front end loaded waffles that I made this morning.  Because I have the way off today, breakfast can be a little more elaborate.  Not to say this is over the moon but I must say it was pretty tasty and filling.

For breakfast, are you all about taste or more about wondering if you can make it to lunch before dying of starvation? I think I am a little bit of both.

Ingredients

  • 3 Waffles
  • Raspberries
  • Banana ( sliced )
  • Ground Flax seed
  • Maple Syrup
  • Molasses
  • Raspberry Yogurt
  • Grapes

Method

  1. Cook your waffles according to your liking.  I just used frozen waffles but feel free to make your own in your waffle maker with a simple pancake batter.
  2. Top with remaining ingredients
  3. ENJOY!

Zesty Tip: I may hold off on the yogurt as it was a bit too heavy and it started to make them soggy.  I may opt for a dollop of whip cream or omit altogether.

2010 Charlottetown Fireworks

Again, before we begin, I cannot take any credit for this next piece as Jeff Docherty at Jeffdoc.com uploaded the video and the quality is excellent.  Thanks Jeff.

I hope you have a great friday and a wonderful weekend.  We are contemplating a trip to the zoo, a zesty junior haircut, and possibly some lawn tractor shopping.  I know can you believe it… our grass has started!!

Take care

Summer Food Through a Straw!

It is mid week Wednesday and the end of the work week for me!  I will pretend I am not excited as I type this little intro but you know I am bouncing around in my chair with excitement.  Tomorrow is Canada day here and I took Friday off as well to make a 4 day weekend.  Whoooo Hooooo!

Both yesterday and on the weekend, I was inspired to make smoothies.  I had tried a smoothie with POM juice and I almost fell off my rocker ( I really mean my office chair ).  It was so damn good I knew I had to make it again and again.  For this creation I did a combination that I like to call POM Star Summer!

Ingredients

  • Vanilla Frozen Yogurt
  • Blackberries
  • Raspberries
  • Banana
  • POM Juice
  • Whey Protein Powder ( optional )

Method

  1. Get out your blender or Magic Bullet.
  2. Add all ingredients and blend
  3. ENJOY!

Zesty Tip: If you are using protein powder and a blender I like to add the powder at the very first so it mixes well.  The same holds true for a magic bullet but just in reverse because you flip the cup over so add it at the very end.

I hope you have a great Wednesday and I would like to wish all the Canadians a Happy Canada Day tomorrow.  I will be doing something fun for the long weekend and I am hearing rumblings of sun sun sun all weekend long.  Talk to you on Friday.

Take care
