Super Star Sugar Cookies

by zesty on September 23, 2011 · 27 comments

Hi ALl, I have a repost for today.  Just traveling back home from Philly this morning and I really didn’t have much time to prepare anything new and fun.  The conference was very busy but enjoyable, however looking to get back home to see the little turkies and Mrs. Zesty.  Enjoy the sugar cookies and I will see you on Monday.

Do you like cookies?  I love them and these may be the best darn sugar cookies you ever sunk your teeth, gums or dentures into.  Now I can not take full credit as it is my Mom’s recipe but when these sugar cookies are cooked right – these are definitely super star cookies.

These sugar cookies are not difficult to make and I love how chewy they are.  Have these along side a tall chilled glass of milk and you’ll never turn back!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 Cups butter, softened
  • 2 Cups white sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 Tsp. vanilla extract
  • 5 Cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 Tsp. baking powder
  • 1 Tsp. salt

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth.
  3. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Stir in the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Cover, and chill dough for at least one hour.
  5. Roll out dough on floured surface 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick.
  6. Cut into shapes with any cookie cutter.
  7. Place cookies 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
  8. Bake 6 to 8 minutes in preheated oven.
  9. Cool completely.

Zesty Tip: When asked to preheat your oven in the recipe, ensure you follow those directions and do not start the baking process before the oven is preheated.

Things are looking up. I hope you have a great day and let me know what you think of these cookies.

Take care

zesty

I love sugar cookies but for some reason only make them during the holidays, and even then it has been many years. They should be a cookie for all seasons, right?! These look great :)

These look like the perfect thickness and like they’d be nice and soft with the perfect amount of crunch! Now I want cookies and milk at 8 a.m.!

Wow that is alot of flour – I bet you have a ton of cookies leftover stalking you. I LOVE sugar cookies especially when topped with buttercream frosting – YUM! These could be fun to make for July 4th in star shapes :) Maybe I can add that with your grilled steak, veggies and potatoes……Fun!

I love how thick you got those cookies. Dont like a skinny sugar cookie. It’s got to be bold enough to carry my frosting! ;)

What a pretty picture – so simple and delicious, just like the cookie itself! I probably couldn’t resist topping these with cinnamon sugar, which would turn them into something else entirely, but with cookies I feel there are no rules!

Mmmm, those look like Cheryl’s Cookies (my favorite sugar cookies). They are nice and thick, unlike the ones MY mom makes. Yum!

A good sugar cookie is a thing of beauty. I lived near a bakery as a child- small and quaint, just like they all used to be- and this place made the most spectacular sugar cookies. Even as a little kid I knew these pale sugary discs were a tiny slice of perfection and I have sampled and baked more sugar cookies in my search to recreate that flavor. This one gets added to the list and I can’t wait to see how they turn out!

I made these and they weren’t able to be rolled and cut with a cookie cutter. Even after i froze them for up to 2 1/2 hours! I followed your directions but the cookies failed big time. I ended up using them as drop cookies and rolling them in red sugar. They tasted really good….just werent able to do what i wanted to do.
