A Little Red Monster


It’s Friday!  Whoooooo Hoooooooo!  Can you tell I am excited?  The week went by super fast as per usual but I am just glad today is Friday and tomorrow morning will be low key and somewhat relaxed.  Busy weekend in store with three birthday parties including zesty junior, who turns 5 on Sunday.  On top of the birthdays, we have music lessons and some house stuff to get done.

Does everybody like smoothies?  I am pretty sure most people would say yes!  There has been a lot of chatter lately around the blog world regarding the green monster and the green monster movement.  I have yet to try a true green monster but the other day I seemed to have the some ingredients that could resemble a “Red Monster”.

Let me know what you think about this one.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 Cups Frozen berries
  • 1-2 Tbsp. Flax Seed
  • 2 whole beets ( peeled and cooked )
  • 1/2 Cup  “real” cranberry juice

Method

  1. Prepare beets either use leftovers or ensure they are cool.
  2. Add frozen berries, cranberry juice to a blender and puree
  3. Add flax seeds and cooked beets
  4. Blend until you reach your desired consistency ( feel free to add a little water or more cranberry juice if need be)
  5. ENJOY!

Zesty Tip: When using frozen “anything” in the blender make sure to add a little liquid to aide in the blending process.  Otherwise the fruit or ice will not get broken down as easily.

Sensational Smoothie with Protein!


Happy Monday to you!  I hope you had a great weekend as I can honestly say I did!  It was nice to spend some time away form the computer and be outside for a change.  The weather, believe it or not, was quite nice.  The sun was shining and the temperature made it above freezing – Whooo Hoooo!

Today I wanted to feature another breakfast smoothie item I have been having as of late which includes a great combination of flavors.

What I have been trying to do lately is too cut down on the bad carbs throughout the day.  It would be nothing for me to eat 6-8 slices of bread per day.  Even though I usually pick whole wheat, it’s still a lot of bread.

So having a protein smoothie reduces my normal 4 slices of whole wheat bread breakfast to zero.  It is a work in progress but I’m attempting to focus on eating cleaner and cutting out such things as chocolate cake, banana walnut bread, and crispy peanut butter cookies.  But have no fear,  I will still bake!   Hopefully, however, I’ll refrain from eating the whole batch like I did with the Butterscotch blondies.  That was crazy (but so goood).

To help with the smoothies I  have been using my magic bullet – it is the perfect appliance for the job.  It’s so fast and easy to clean – highly recommended.
