Tropical Cloud Smoothie

With the mornings getting a little more hectic with the holiday schedule behind us, why not start your day off with a quick and tasty smoothie.  I actually had this for dinner last night but it really is a great breakfast treat.  I kicked this smoothie up a little bit with a scoop of protein and a table spoon of flax seed.  It gave it more dimension and added some flavor as well.

The combination of oranges, pineapple and blackberries is really refreshing.  Whenever you have a craving for a smoothie or in a rush to get somewhere… whip this 3 minute recipe up in your blender.

Ingredients

  • 1 Orange, peeled
  • 1/4 Pineapple, peeled and cored
  • 8 Blackberries
  • 1 Cup Low-fat Yogurt
  • 1 Scoop of Protein ( Vanilla)
  • 1 Tbsp. Ground Flax Seed

Method

  1. Place yogurt, pineapple, and orange in blender.  Mix on high until blended smooth.
  2. Add protein and flax seed.  Blend again until smooth.
  3. Toss in blackberries at the end and blend.
  4. Top with blackberry.
  5. ENJOY!

Zesty Tip: Smoothie Not Thick Enough? If your smoothies are coming out thinner than you’d like, add a few more ice cubes to the recipe.  Add the liquids to the blender first, to prevent it from binding up on the fruit and getting stuck.

Question of the day:

What is your favorite ingredient to put in a smoothie?

I hope you have yourself a great day.

Take care

zesty

Zesty, that is quite an impressive blackberry for the frozen tundra that you call home. :)

I love putting frozen avocados in my smoothies. Makes them really thick and creamy. Love the good fat as well.

frozen banana, since you don’t need to add any ice :) but i guess that would be true for any frozen fruit…

Love your creation!! Here’s mine (since I drink 3 protein shakes/smoothies everyday):

    - 1 cup hempmilk

    - 4 tablespoons (1 serving) hemp protein powder

    - 2 cups frozen fruit

I like my smoothies to be as thick or thicker than soft-serve ice cream. My tip is to freeze fruit ahead of time, wrap peeled bananas in saran wrap, wash and cut peaches, strawberries, etc…and freeze them all. Then you won’t need to add any ice at all, just good old fruit. I also find that greek yogurt gives a much thicker and creamier texture. Now blackberries, I must scour for some of those, they’d be a great addition to a smoothie!

I’m thinking that this is the best smoothie I’ve ever had!:)Mmmm…very delicious! Also, first time I’ve ever used flax seed or protein powder(which I was very excited about:). Do you have any more recipes that incorporate these two ingredients??

My go-to smoothie usually consists of a fresh banana, a handful of frozen berries or frozen fruit, and orange juice. Most of the time I use a mixture of frozen raspberries, blackberries, and strawberries…. But I also love using frozen peaches and mangoes.

I love smoothies for breakfast. They are quick, simple and can be very healthy as long as you avoid the ice cream. I don’t use recipes – I just throw whatever fruit I have in and hope for the best. One ingredient I use most frequently is soft tofu. The soft tofu makes the smoothie nice and thick and also adds protein and nutrients. I will often use plain soft tofu instead of yogurt.
