Vanilla Nut Milk

by zesty on December 2, 2008 · 24 comments

Happy Tuesday! Let’s totally throw a curve ball in the mix and serve hot milk today!  Am I crazy?  Actually ummmm maybe… but this little drink was actually quite good.  I was thinking all day long as to what I could do to spice things up a bit on zesty.

I thought that a drink recipe would be a good idea, but I do not drink tea or coffee very often.  Well tea sometimes but coffee never.  I know it is a wee bit nuts when I tell people that.  I have never tasted coffee in my life.  As for tea, I have had in the past but not regularly.  This recipe below is like a tea without the tea – or at least that is what I thought of as I drank it.

Let me know what you think of this simple twist on a warm beverage.

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup (250ml) fat-free milk
  • 1 Tbsp. (15ml) sugar substitute
  • 1 Tsp. (5ml) Vanilla
  • 1/8 Tsp. (.5ml) Almond Extract
  • Dash of Nutmeg

Method

  1. Combine all ingredients in a small saucepan
  2. Cook over medium heat until warm, strring frequesntly, bo not bring to a boil
  3. Serve Hot
  4. ENJOY!

Zesty Tip: When heating milk be very careful not to let it come to a boil.  It will quickly boil over and make a huge mess.  Always stay close to the stove when heating milk.

Let me know what you think about flavored milk?  I look forward to hearing your comments.  Have a great Tuesday!

Take care

zesty

Sounds festive and delightful!! My favorite flavor of milk (HEMPMILK, to be exact) is vanilla :-)

Cute teacup ;)

You have to at least TASTE coffee in your lifetime! I love it because it’s so rich (I could take or leave the caffeine).

I can’t get past “I have never tasted coffee in my life.” Wow – good for you. It’s a bad habit of mine. Maybe I’ll try your flavored milk instead.

That sounds delicious! Reminds me of when my aunt would make cappucinnos, but for her young daughter she would just do steamed/foamed milk with vanilla…it was really good. Haha you should get an espresso machine just for the steamer part for your milk mixes :)

YUM! I used to have vanilla milk all the time when I was a kid. I didn’t even know it then that the vanilla my parents were using was artificial and contained so much corn syrup… no wonder it wouldn’t make me sleepy!

I myself have never had coffee, only caffeine free tea…I saw what it did to my parents, but like the smell! Chai can be a good source for cold weather! I like your blog, thanks for visiting mine…

This reminds me of steamers I used to get at starbucks in the cinnamon dolce flavor. I love warm milk. I am going to try this recipe with rice milk tonight.

Nice, I used to go to a coffee shop that sold “hot vanilla” which was pretty much the same thing. Good stuff.

Never had coffee?! That is crazy, haha. Or perhaps I’m the crazy coffee addicted Seattleite. In any case this looks delicious but I’ve never the biggest fan of steamed milk….but I could see this going somewhere with some espresso…hmmmm

Thanks!

Looks like a nice way to warm up in the morning. We frequently add a delicious Mexican vanilla to our coffee, quite yummy. I love that beautiful cup too!

Funny enough, I posted a Vanilla Cafe Au Lait today but it’s for coffee. This looks wonderful though.

Aw, this reminds me of a warm drink my mom used to make us when we were kids. We just called it Hot Vanilla (haha what original kids we were). I’d definitely like to try it with the almond extract, or maybe even some mint extract too. Thanks Zesty! :)

If you’re not a big coffee or tea person, then this is your answer to hot/warm drinks in the winter! The flavor sounds amazing.
