The time is here! I have been wanting a new camera for a while now. After discussions with photographer friends and research online, I took the plunge and purchased a Canon Rebel XSi. I didn’t really have a lot of time to do my research as you will find out below.

Zesty on the Road
A few weeks ago, I was contacted by a large pizza chain in Nova Scotia, Canada to do a photo shoot for their new website and menus. Of course I was excited but nervous at the same time. I have been shooting food for quite a while now but I would not consider myself a professional by any stretch of the imagination. So before the shoot, I decided to pick up the new camera, learn how to use it and borrow some pro lighting from a photography friend of mine.
The shoot went pretty well. There were a few wrinkles tossed in the mix with some lighting issues but I overcame them ( I think ). I am still in the middle of digitally editing the pictures to ensure the light and final product is perfect.
Here are some shots inside the test kitchen where the photo shoot was held.

Zesty in the Media
Just last week I was approached by a women’s based magazine in New Jersey, First for Women magazine in regards to featuring ZestyCook.com in an upcoming issue. The topic they were interested in was “How to organize your fridge“. I was more than happy to do the interview and answer any questions they had. After speaking with them, it seems that zestycook made the cut and will be appearing in the November issue.
I guess there is a first for everything! I have never been mentioned in a magazine before so I am looking forward to the issue. For some reason I feel like a kid inside a candy store.
Amazing Food Blogs
As mentioned earlier regarding photography, I get a lot of inspiration from reading professional blogs that take amazing food photography. A while back I wrote a post on how to take amazing food pictures and a lot of people have used those tips to enhance their work. But if you want to see some amazing shots up close and personal – you need to check out these sites below. If you know of other sites that take amazing pictures, please add them in the comments..
Happy Tuesday to you! I hope you have a great day today. I will have a house update soon as well as a couple of homemade baked good recipes to share.
Take care
zesty

So much excitement and good news in this post! Congrats on the camera, the photo shoot, and the magazine appearance!
Thanks for the great tips!! I need to get a better camera, for sure. Mine is small and portable, with no large lense that I think is necessary for a good picture. Your new camera looks awesome.
Check out From French Fries To Flaxseeds, she has amazing picture son her site.
Zesty…Congratulations on ALL those firsts…AMAZING!
Love the camera!
Have a great day!
Enjoy your camera. It looks like you’re enjoying it already.

I like the new camera, I’m don’t have anything fancy just a cannon sd1100, I’m still learning to take great shots of my meals.
Congrats, Zesty! Have you seen The Hungry Mouse’s (http://www.thehungrymouse.com) site? Beautiful photography – and step-by-step instructions w/photos so that not-so-confident cooks can see what they’re supposed to be doing.
AWESOME! Congrats on everything – it is all so well deserved. I have always admired your picture taking abilities – you do awesome work! I can’t wait to see the pictures (you know you have to share the final product) and read the article
Have a fantastic day although somehow I am sure you already are

Very jealous of that new camera!!
whoa nice camera . . . and thanks for the links to those sites, I’ve never been on those blogs and you are right – the pictures are amazing . . . I think I better go read your how to post as well so my pictures can look that good! (I’m a newbie at this blogging thing)
Yay for new cameras!! I just got the rebel xsi too and I’m still trying to figure it out. I think I need to take a class! I think my biggest issue is the lighting because I don’t have the best natural light. Are there any reasonable lighting stations (not sure of the name) that can recreate natural light? And congrats on the other great news! exciting!
Zesty! Thanks for the sweet compliment! I am totally flattered…
Congrats on the new camera! I am a die-hard Canon fan, so I know you’ll love it! What kind of pro lighting equipment did you borrow? I just purchased some Lowel EGO lights (they just came today!!!) and am so excited to try them out. There’s much experimentation ahead of me too…
Nice camera! Congrats! I use Rebel Xti and couldn’t be happier.
Love the camera. Smitten Kitchen also has beautiful photography
Congrats on the pizza photo shoot. Pictures of pizza are really hard to get looking right. I’m sure it was challenging and rewarding all at the same time.
Congrats on choosing this camera. I bought the exact same model last year, and am having a ball. Even though I’ve been incredibly tied up this year with myriad obstacles, obligations, etc., I try to find time to play with the Rebel and learn all about the amazing things this camera can do. Best of luck
