Zesty Buys The Magic Bullet!

Happy Friday! A few months ago at COSTCO, I bought the Magic Bullet as it was on sale and I thought it would be a great addition to the kitchen.  However, I left it in the box for about 3 months and just took it out last weekend to try it out – very impressed thus far.

It’s hard to even know where to start talking about the Magic Bullet. The official website is rather loud; it talks like a personal trainer or fitness guru, promising that this little blender will help you get fit, cut down the time you spend cooking, and change your energy levels. Whoa.

I thought it would be best to ignore all the made-for-TV hype and focus on what this bullet is meant to do.

The first benefit is the size. Unlike traditional blenders and food processors, the Magic Bullet really doesn’t take up much space at all. It goes vertical, with a small round power base that is easily stored away. It’s much easier to pull in and out of the cupboard than a regular blender.

But really who cares about that?  Does size really matter? In place of the large, heavy pitcher that sits on top most blenders, the Magic Bullet has a collection of inverted oval-ish plastic dome cups, mugs and two blades.  In addition, the set contains plastic covers for refrigeration and storage.

Simply fill the container, screw the blade to the bottom, pop it onto the base and press. Seconds later, you’re done.

Another advantage is how simple it is to use. You don’t have to choose between mysteriously-named settings – Puree, Blend, Crush. There’s just one setting. You screw the blade cap onto the jar or cup you’re using, flip it over, and hold it down. As long as you’re pressing the cup down the motor is running. Release and it stops. If you need some extra hands, simply hold the cup down and turn it so it locks.

My guess is that, like me, you will end up using the little cup for most quick jobs.  You laugh? What can be done with the Magic Bullet’s small cup? Surprisingly, quite a lot — particularly for jobs for which you’d probably bypass using a blender at all.  I whipped up a basil mayonnaise the other day and it literally took 10 seconds to prepare and another 30 seconds to clean (which is my favorite feature).

Below is a shot of the basil mayo.  It’s basically some fresh basil fired into the Magic Bullet cup and some mayo.  Give it a spin and presto!  Basil mayo for a grilled chicken sandwich.

What I like about the Magic Bullet is that its been well thought out, extremely convenient, easy to use and small.  In addition, there’s no having to “find room” for it,  no heavy parts and cleanup is a snap.  Just unscrew the blade, wash the cup and blade, and you’re done. Hey, even zesty can wash a cup!

I will defintitly keep you in the loop on all the recipes I use the bullet for.  Last week’s tropical cloud came courtesy of the magic bullet.  Stay tuned and have a great weekend!

Take care

zesty

I’ve been quite intrigued by the Magic Bullet, but haven’t caved yet… maybe I’ll seriously consider it now!

I’ve used VitaMix and Magic Bullet before. I’m partial to my beloved BlendTec ;-)

At first I thought this said, “…Bites the Magic Bullet,” which I guess could also be accurate – though not in the literal way.

I’ve seen the infomercials and thought it was pretty cool. I just don’t have room for another gadget in my kitchen! Guess I need a bigger kitchen!

Thanks for the honest review- I have been debating getting it forever, worrying if it was just infomercial junk or really good. Now I know what to ask for for my next present :-D

I keep reading about the Magic Bullet on other blogs, but I don’t think I will ever own one as I am quite loyal to my Vita-Mix. :)

Mayo sounds awesome!

I bought that same set for my 19 year old step-son. He moved out of his mom’s house after high school graduation into his own place, and was talking about how great it was, but that his mom wouldn’t part with it.

He makes protein shakes in it all the time! I’ll have to send him this link to explore the other possibilities!

I’ve had my Magic Bullet for years – at least 5, if not more. Back when it also came with the full belnder sized pitcher and juice extractor…and when you could only order it off of the Shopping Channel. And I paid a pretty penny for it, but it still works. I just loved that I could whip up an individual sized smoothie right in the glass I was going to drink it in.

As much as I love it, I also wish I had a powerful regular blender, since the pitcher on this one leaves a bit to be desired.

I’ve seen the Magic Bullet at Costco and Bed, Bath & Beyond – while it’s caught my attention (seems like such a handy tool for chopping, dicing, grinding, pureeing, etc.), the commercial has really made me think twice about it (is it really that great?)

But after seeing your review, it really helps :) Thanks!

Even though we received a Magic Bullet for Christmas a few years ago, it has been sitting (untouched) in one of our cabinets ever since. I am bound and determined to start using that thing! I’m glad to see you’re happy with yours so far—it will be interesting to see how the Magic Bullet performs for us.

I am so glad you got one! I’m surprised you didn’t have one, actually. I freaking LOVE my Magic Bullet and had even created a category for it at my blog. LOL. I hope yours brings you many years of good eats! :)

oh how i love my magic bullet! it was a housewarming gift, and it has become such a staple. single-serving smoothies in the summer, delicious soups in the winter, and fabulous dips and hummus all year round! i don’t have an immersion blender, so this takes its place as an easy-to-clean blenderizer, but it is also a great smoothiemaker!

Zesty, I LOVE my Magic Bullet – unfortunately I have maimed her with my vigorous blending. A tip: you *can* strip the grabby thing under the blade if you try to blend something that’s too thick…

Now I just need to find out how to get a replacement.

Those Magic Bullet infomercials are loud and annoying. But I was always curious about them. A great way to make smoothies for the morning. Share more smoothie recipes! lol

I’ve had one in my cupboard for I don’t even know for how long. I looked at all the components and said “…maybe next week”… the next week that never came.

I’m interested to see all the things you come up with the make in your new toy. :) I bought my brother one for Christmas a few years ago and he loves it. I’ve considered it for myself because of the size. Love Basil Mayo! :)

I love mine – takes up so little room in the kitchen and does a lot of what bigger machines will.

Some of their recipes need some work, but the bullet is great.

If you’re not sold, take a look at the video review on infoNOTmercial.com
